| ![]() Below are some of the pictures that I've taken at some of the local dog shows and the Specialty in my area. All of these fine hounds are owned by wonderful people who adore their dogs and have all been so friendly to me and want nothing more then for me to get the hound of my dreams. I very much want a particular kind of Basset, problem is as my husband would say, I have champagne tastes and a beer budget. I've overcome that with my horses by breeding them, I breed to the best stallion I can breed to within the lines I want to have. With a Basset, I'm not a breeder, I don't have any intention of being one so I have to buy the best I can. And they come from very prominent breeders, with long waiting lists, that's okay, I've waited a long time already, I know what I want. I want to be competitive, but I want to show the hound myself. So...do I go after a pup from one of these two breeders, knowing "I" have a better shot at winning against the great hounds in my area, without having to hire a handler, which would cut into my horse budget, or do I get any one of the great hounds I can have if I get one from one of my area breeders, which might be a grandchild from one of these two breeders that I so desperately want a hound from? This has been a BIG part of what I've been struggling with. It always comes down to these two breeders, I lust after a Bugle Bay hound. Not a day goes by I don't go to Olde Fashion Basset Hounds and visit the most precious Virgil. I do have a competitive streak, I show horses, breed horses, but I want to show a hound in AKC, and then go on to tracking and hunting, I live in a perfect area for it. If, since I want a male, people wanted to use him, I would be fine with that in order to have a puppy for the future, but most of all I want a Basset to love and be my companion. And being a "head hunter" obviously, I want a Basset with a face that everytime I look at him, I'll smile...or laugh. So...no matter what I decide, I need a breeder to help me pick a pup who will have that face when he grows up. So I look at breeders who breed hounds that are consistent. So there are Basset folks here who think I'm a nut, hanging around the Basset Classes and Specialties and I have no Basset, but then the folks who have a hound from Bugle Bay or Olde Fashion understand completely. Below are pictures of hounds with the faces and owners I LOVE. I hope if some breeders see what I would like in a hound they will email me and give me pointers as to how to find a puppy who will grow up with this look. Any help is deeply appreciated. And I would be more then willing to help anyone else in my position as far as finding out information for them. I can't say enough about this wonderful local Basset club and their kindness, helpfulness, and of course their beautiful B-hounds! ![]()
Any Basset on the Olde Fashion Basset Hounds site are just gorgeous, please go and visit Jane Baetz's wonderful site, she of course has the lovely "Virgil", my most favorite Basset to look at. He is the epitome of Basset as far as I'm concerned, go look at his wonderful self. And of course my favorite site to visit and lovely and helpful to deal with is Bugle Bay, Margery Cooks' site. Her hounds are my favorite "food group". Both of these gals have more champions then you can shake a stick at, but more importantly to me, consistency. I can't say enough about these Basset Hound lovers.
